Beijing Children's Hospital Strengthens Pediatric Ties During Paris Visit

A delegation from Beijing Children's Hospital (BCH), led by President Ni Xin, visited Paris from September 7 to 9, 2026, for a series of exchanges with Assistance Publique–Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) and Gustave Roussy. The visit brought together clinicians, researchers and institutional leaders for discussions spanning pediatric care, rare diseases, research and innovation, and pediatric oncology.

A key outcome of the visit was the renewal of the cooperation framework between BCH and AP-HP, reaffirming a longstanding partnership between the two institutions. Under the renewed framework, BCH and AP-HP will seek to expand exchanges among clinical and research professionals, strengthen collaboration in rare and complex diseases, and create further opportunities for research, training and academic exchange.

Discussions with AP-HP also provided an opportunity to compare how pediatric services and expertise are organized across large academic health systems. The two sides exchanged perspectives on the roles of university-affiliated hospitals, coordination across institutions, and the distribution of specialized pediatric services, while identifying potential areas for closer professional and research collaboration.

At Hôpital Necker–Enfants malades, discussions focused on complex pediatric conditions, rare diseases, advanced surgery and translational research. BCH clinicians met with French colleagues working in metabolic and genetic diseases and pediatric gynecology, with particular attention to multidisciplinary approaches to rare diseases and the integration of clinical care and research. The visit also opened discussions on closer links between relevant specialist teams and potential research collaboration in rare and inherited disorders.

The delegation then visited Institut Imagine, where the focus shifted to the research infrastructure supporting rare and genetic diseases. Exchanges covered the integration of clinical and research data, genomic research, data governance and the use of clinical data to support scientific discovery. The discussions also explored potential collaboration in rare diseases, particularly around clinical and genomic data and their application in scientific research.

At Hôpital Robert-Debré, the delegation explored the operation of a major pediatric hospital within a regional health network, including its pediatric emergency department. Discussions covered emergency and critical care, hospital operations, regional pediatric networks, specialty development and the integration of research into clinical practice.

At Hôpital Armand-Trousseau, the visit focused on perinatal and neonatal care and the organization of regional perinatal networks. Exchanges examined the continuum of care from high-risk pregnancy and neonatal medicine through pediatrics, as well as multidisciplinary coordination across services and institutions.

The delegation also visited Gustave Roussy for an in-depth exchange on pediatric and adolescent oncology. Specialists from both institutions discussed pediatric hematology and oncology, precision medicine, innovative therapies, drug development, clinical trials, real-world research and long-term follow-up. The discussion also explored possibilities for future exchanges around international multicenter research, pediatric cancer drug development and clinical studies.

The visit strengthened BCH's longstanding relationship with AP-HP while creating new opportunities for engagement with leading pediatric and research institutions in France. Building on these exchanges, BCH will continue to advance cooperation in areas including rare and complex diseases, professional and academic exchange, multicenter pediatric oncology research, and clinical research on new drugs and innovative therapies. The visit marks a further step in strengthening BCH's international partnerships and fostering closer collaboration in pediatric care, research and innovation.
