A delegation of pediatric specialists from National Center for Children’s Health, Beijing Children’s Hospital, Capital Medical University, participated in a medical mission to the Kingdom of Cambodia from March 26 to April 1, 2026, including clinical service delivery, academic exchange, and institutional engagement.

The delegation included Prof. Huang Liuming, Head of the Surgery and Emergency Center; Dr. Qin Xiumin, Deputy Chief Physician, Department of Gastroenterology; and Dr. Wang Jia, Attending Physician, Pediatrics General Ward, International Medical Services.

The visit took place in conjunction with the 6th Sino-Cambodia International Medical Symposium, held in Phnom Penh under the theme “Digital Transformation and AI in Modern Surgery.” The symposium brought together medical professionals from mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, and Macau SAR.

As part of the mission, the delegation conducted outreach activities in rural communities in Kandal Province, where they provided free medical consultations and treatment services. The delegation contributed to the care of more than 1,000 underprivileged villagers, providing pediatric assessment, clinical consultation, and health education to local communities. The initiative was highly appreciated by the Cambodian government and received coverage on national prime-time television news, reflecting its contribution to improving access to health services in underserved areas.

During the visit, the delegation met with His Excellency Hun Many, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, who attended the opening of the symposium and expressed strong support for the activities, underscoring the importance attached by the Cambodian side to bilateral medical exchange. The delegation also met with His Excellency Prof. Dr. Chhem Kieth Rethy, Senior Minister and Chairman of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council of Cambodia. The two sides exchanged views on pediatric discipline development, training, technical cooperation, and telemedicine.

At the symposium, the Beijing Children’s Hospital experts delivered presentations and engaged in academic exchange on key areas of pediatric clinical practice, sharing clinical experience from their respective specialties. The delegation also visited the National Pediatric Hospital in Phnom Penh, where clinical discussions and joint procedures with local medical teams provided opportunities for direct professional exchange. Prof. Huang Liuming performed a live demonstration of minimally invasive pediatric surgery, which was well received by Cambodian clinicians.

The delegation also visited Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital to gain further understanding of Cambodia’s public health system, clinical capacity, and service delivery.

This mission combined clinical service delivery, academic exchange, and professional engagement, demonstrating a practical model for collaboration in pediatric care. It also reflects ongoing cooperation in health between China and Cambodia and contributes to efforts to expand access to pediatric care and strengthen capacity in partner settings. Beijing Children’s Hospital will continue to advance international collaboration through practical engagement, with a focus on improving children’s health.
